Pathway to progression...

Post  Reidokiri Jin on Mon Jan 26, 2009 12:25 am

"I'm Kakashi Hatake. Things I like and things I hate... I don't feel like telling you that. My dreams for the future... never really thought about it. As for my hobbies... I have lots of hobbies."

"Ok; let me begin by saying that this is Kozu's idea and he has asked me to present it for him, whether due to lack of initiative or fear of rejection is unknown, but here goes.

Dreams for the future.... or put more simply, character goals. It was suggested that we either bring this up after genin graduation or add it into the character template.

I have someone I have to kill...

I'm gonna be hokage!

*looks to sasuke and blushes*

I'm gonna prove that it's possible to be an excellent ninja without knowing either ninjutsu or genjutsu.

And so on and so forth. While at first they seem just like tiny tidbits to allow you to get an overview of the character they actually help to drive the storyline. Sasuke's hatred, Naruto's lust for attention, Sakura's crush, Lee's self-worth. The entire naruto world can almost literally be summed up from start to finish within their introductions after their acceptance as genin. Each goal is a means to try and push the story in a certain direction, and each can be backed or buffeted by another, creating both conflict and camaraderie.

The point? We should implement this somehow into our world of Shinobi. Think it over, let us know."

In other words you were gonna ask me to bring it up even more often? And thank you, I did try to find formatting that would work well.

I'm gonna be the greatest shinobi who ever lived and make my family proud!

I think this might work, but the only problem I see is that there isn't a whole lot of options. Unless you say "I want to own a ramen store" Or something. Otherwise it will just be a lot of I want to be the best Ninja, or I want to master ninjutsu, or something. I guarentee we will see repitition and we can't ask people to devise new ones once most all of them are taken.

Other then that I think it would be a wonderful thing to have because it would really dictate the way we play, and why we do certain things.

Well.. *glares at Jin* My original intent was for.. less.. Generic things ~_~

More things like; I want to..; Become Kage, Become ANBU, kill " ", do " " in every nation.. ect.. People are supposed to think up their own. Just something that goes with their character! Maybe someone else will want to be kage.. then you have a rival.. or maybe someone else wants to do " " in every nation.. Then you have a new comrade.

And even if they do want to own a ramen store.. It gives everything the character does more reason and purpose.. Otherwise people will just kind of be.. Walking around with no intent in the RP.. Y'know?

Well yes I do, but you just confirmed what I said. People will repeat others goals. Like I want to be Hokage. That one is guarnteed to be used a lot. We just need to find an efficiant way to make sure there are not like 6 people from the same village who want to become Hokage. I mean come on.

Still I think it would be awesome to have it to give characters motive, but you need to think of a way to make sure the above does not happen. I am not saying "No." I am saying "Improve it"

But.. the whole point was for there to be 6 people with the same goal, making them all rivals.. It makes it a contest to be Kage.. You don't just want one person trying to be it, do you?

What I mean is that if we have 6 people fighting all the time it will get annoying and quite possibly "Spam-ish". If you havn't noticed we are pretty small at the moment and probibly wont get as big as RPGFO. So if we have most of our memebrs fighting, it might get personal and that would just not be good.

For one, I dont think were actually going to have 6 people trying to get kage.. I honestly wouldn't expect more than 3 people max wanting to be a kage for the same place.
Also, it doesn't have to be a constant battle.. it'll just be a subtle rivalry. Or even, a friendly race to be kage in some cases.

"...My first impression of you guys are...I hate you."
rofl

I like this idea, it will give some motivation to characters and make a nice piece for rp. I could see it getting out of hand generic as well, but this dilemma can be avoided. As long as the rp of the situation is good, a generic answer shouldn't matter. And if more than one person says the same thing it promotes rp in the form of rivalry or friendship.
I agree.
